Nothing else in local SEO produces movement as quickly for as little money. Work through this in order.
1. Primary category — the decision that caps everything else
Your primary category does more than any other single field. Flooring companies have several plausible options and picking the wrong one quietly limits which searches you can appear for at all.
| If you are | Consider a primary of |
|---|---|
| Showroom with stock, selling to walk-ins | Flooring store |
| Installer with no real showroom | Flooring contractor |
| Mostly hardwood install and refinishing | Wood floor installation service or refinishing service |
| Mostly carpet | Carpet installer or carpet store |
| Mostly tile | Tile contractor or tile store |
| Epoxy and concrete coatings | A coatings-specific category — see epoxy & coatings SEO |
Then add every relevant secondary category. Secondaries are close to free and they widen the queries you can surface for.
2. Services and products
Fill the services list out completely, using the language customers use rather than trade terms. If you carry brands, the products section is where those go — and it pairs with your dealer locator listings to reinforce the same associations.
3. Service area, set honestly
Do not list forty cities you would technically drive to. Google reads an over-broad service area as a dilution signal, and it does not extend your reach. Set the radius you actually serve, then build city pages to reach further.
4. Photos — your own floors only
Every flooring template ships with the same stock rooms, and manufacturers supply polished product photography that hundreds of other dealers are also using. Your worst phone photo of a real completed install outperforms all of it, because it is the one thing a competitor cannot copy.
- Before and after pairs of real jobs
- Your actual showroom, exterior and interior
- Your team and your vans
- Add new ones monthly rather than in one batch
5. Reviews — the input that moves the needle
The most responsive lever you control. Build the request into your job close rather than leaving it to memory, and respond to every review including the bad ones. Never buy or write them: suspension is often permanent and there is no appeal worth having.
6. Posts and Q&A
Post regularly — new installs, brands you have taken on, seasonal work. Seed the Q&A section with the questions you answer on the phone every week and answer them yourself. Both sections are underused by nearly everyone in this trade.
7. Check where you actually rank
Searching from your own showroom tells you almost nothing, because proximity is a live ranking factor. A geo grid across the metro shows the real picture and is usually the most uncomfortable slide in a first report. It is baseline work in local SEO.
