What to publish, in the order that pays
Flooring buyers spend weeks deciding. The shortlist forms during those weeks. Content that only speaks to people ready to buy arrives after the decision has already been made.
- Read time
- 6 min
- Cadence
- 2-4 per month
- Horizon
- 6-12 months
- Priority
- Revenue, not volume
Most flooring blogs are industry news and seasonal filler. Nobody searches for either. Here is what people actually type while choosing a floor, grouped by how close they are to buying.
Tier 1 — comparisons (start here)
Highest-volume research queries and the easiest to write well, because you answer these on the showroom floor every week.
- LVP vs laminate
- Engineered vs solid hardwood
- Tile vs LVP for bathrooms and kitchens
- Carpet vs hard surface for bedrooms
- Refinishing vs replacing hardwood
Write them as genuine comparisons including where the option you sell less of wins. A comparison that always concludes in your favour reads as a sales page and performs like one.
Tier 2 — cost guides
Everyone searches cost and almost nobody in this industry publishes real ranges, which is exactly why publishing them works.
- Cost per square foot installed, by material
- What drives the price up — subfloor prep, removal, stairs, transitions
- Whole-house replacement cost by home size
- Refinishing cost versus replacement
Give ranges and explain what moves them. It filters out people who were never going to buy from you and pre-qualifies the ones who will.
Tier 3 — durability and suitability
Lower volume, very high intent, almost no competition.
- Best flooring for dogs, for kids, for allergies
- Flooring for basements and moisture
- What works over underfloor heating
- Waterproof versus water-resistant, explained honestly
- Which floors suit rental properties
Tier 4 — process and expectations
These convert. Somebody reading about installation day is close to booking.
- What happens on installation day
- How to prepare a room
- Does old flooring have to come up
- How long acclimation takes and why it matters
- What your warranty actually covers
Tier 5 — brand and local
- Brand pages for the lines you carry — and the ones most likely to qualify for co-op funding
- Completed project write-ups with real photos, named by neighbourhood
- Local material notes — what suits the housing stock and climate where you work
Order by the work you want, not by search volume. If your margin is best on hardwood refinishing, the refinishing comparison and cost guide go first even if LVP gets triple the searches. Volume is a tiebreaker.
Cadence and the honest bit
Two to four pieces a month, published consistently, beats twelve in January and nothing until June. If you cannot sustain a cadence, write fewer and better — five pages that genuinely answer something outperform thirty that skim.
And project write-ups with your own photography are the most underused asset in this trade. They are the only content on your site a competitor physically cannot copy.
How this gets sequenced against everything else sits in SEO marketing, and the queries themselves come out of the keyword map.
